What is Philosophy for me?
Philosophy was already defined by a number of people that seemed to leave a mark on us. And now, this question was passed to me. What Philosophy really is for me?
For me, Philosophy is the discipline of asking, answering, and learning leading to ideas that would intertwine with another idea.
My definition of Philosophy might be confusing to others and to you, who’s reading this. So, to put dignity on my definition, I would explain it and make clarifications. Why did I define Philosophy as the discipline of asking, answering, and learning?
Like the definition of Philosophy by Karl Jaspers, it is the art of questioning. When there are things that puzzle or bother you, you tend to question, you ask for you to know the truth behind it. Once you get the information about it, your mind starts to process the idea. And there, you have your knowledge about this thing that bothers you.
You’re not the only one who encounters events that isn’t as clear as what it should be. A person tends to ask and gain knowledge. When you’re asked about something that you know you knew, you tend to share it. You answer his or her question confidently and help him/ her deal with it. You just shared your idea.
In everything we do, whether big or small, we learn. When we ask, we get answers. When we get answers, we’re enlightened. With just a small converse with another speaker, we both get ideas from each other. We did not need to believe it. We just need to respect it. You decide.
What’s the link?
When two persons get involved in a conversation, they learn from each other. They don’t just learn the idea of the other but also the man behind the idea. In every person, there is distinctness – uniqueness. The environment, belief, and personality of a person affect his/ her ideas. With this sharing or giving of ideas, we get to put things together. We find the link. We find connection.
